Setting up Your Student Email on Your Personal Mobile Device
You can stay connected to your MECC student email by setting up your account to view on any mobile device. In order to receive student email to your Android, IPhone or other device, follow the following steps. Please keep in mind each device is slightly different. This document is not necessarily step by step instructions. This document is meant to be a guide only.
1. Open up your device’s email settings.
2. Choose Gmail account – if that option is not available, choose add another account.
3. In account settings, look for: IMAP server address: imap.gmail.com
4. IMAP user name: Your full Gmail address (e.g. jsmith0012@email.vccs.edu).
Notice: Even though your VCCS/MECC student name will appear as jsmith0012@email.vccs.edu, it is a Gmail account. When your device asks for your Gmail username, please be sure to enter it as jsmith0012@email.vccs.edu, not jsmith0012@gmail.com.
5. IMAP password: Your Gmail password
6. IMAP port: 993
7. IMAP TLS/SSL required: yes
IMAP is an email protocol that will let you check your email. Always choose IMAP over Pop. Pop is an older email protocol that will send your email unencrypted.
In order to send email, you will need to setup a protocol called SMTP. To setup SMTP, edit the account you created in the previous steps. Then perform these additional steps:
1. SMTP server address (or server name): smtp.gmail.com
2. SMTP user name: Your full Gmail address (e.g. tmullins0012@email.vccs.edu) – notice, for your MECC student email, this will not be tmullins0012@gmail.com or simply tmullins0012.
3. SMTP password: Your Gmail password
4. SMTP port (SSL): 465
5. SMTP TLS/SSL required: yes

Forwarding Your MECC Email to a Personal Account
Make sure that you receive important information about MECC events, academic and financial aid deadlines, and other news by automatically forwarding your MECC student email to the personal email address you check most often.
How to Forward MECC Student Emails
1. Open the Gmail account that you want to forward from.
2. Click the gear in the top right.
3. Select Settings.
4. Select the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
5. Click Add a forwarding address in the “Forwarding” section.
6. Enter the email address you want to forward to.
7. For your security, Google will send a verification email to that address. Open your other email account and find the confirmation message from the Gmail team. If you’re having trouble finding it, check your Spam folder.
8. Click the verification link in that email.
9. Back in your MECC Student Gmail account, reload the page in your web browser - look for the reload icon .
10. On the same Forwarding and POP/IMAP page in Settings, check that Forward a copy of incoming mail is selected and your email address is in the drop-down menu.
11. In the second drop-down menu, choose what you want Gmail to do with your messages after they’re forwarded, such as keep Gmail’s copy in the Inbox (recommended) or archive Gmail’s copy.
12. Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.

Stop Auto-Forwarding
If you no longer want to automatically forward your mail, follow these instructions:

1. Open the Gmail account that you forward from.
2. Click the gear in the top right.
3. Select Settings.
4. Select the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
5. Select Disable forwarding in the “Forwarding” section.
6. Click the first drop-down menu after “Forward a copy of incoming mail to” and check for any addresses listed as “(in use by a filter).” To disable the forwarding filter, choose the Remove option
