Governor's School II
About Governor's School
Governor’s School is open to rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors in the counties of Lee, Scott, Wise, and Dickenson, and the City of Norton, who have a 3.0 GPA or higher.

The three-week program features a variety of hands-on activities in one of several subject areas selected by the student. Students spend time in the field, in labs, on tours, and in the classroom with the faculty of Mountain Empire Community College, receiving eight college credit hours – tuition free.

The 2015 Governor’s School will be held June 15 through June 26, 2015.

There are 10 strands being offered this summer. They are:
  • Cyber Security
  • Forensic for the Biology Lab 
  • Entrepreneurship and Regional Tourism
  • Authentic Mathematics for Science and Engineering 
  • Art and Animation
  •  Mobile App Development
  • Old Time String Band and Traditional Music
  •  Engineering Design
  •  Drama
  •  Creative Writing


Additionally, field trips will be made to area 4-year colleges.
