Step-by-Step Enrollment Process for Dual Enrollment Classes

Although a student is already enrolled in the high school class, in order to receive college credit the student must also apply for admission to MECC and enroll for the class with the college.

Step 1.
Apply for Admission to MECC
 
Students must complete an MECC Dual Enrollment application form, including completion of the Application for Virginia In-State Tuition Rates by a parent or legal guardian, and return the completed Application to the Guidance Counselor or Career Center. The application form is available at the Guidance office.  The Guidance Counselor or Career Center will submit the completed Applications to MECC prior to placement testing. Students must complete an MECC Dual Enrollment application form, including completion of the Application for Virginia In-State Tuition Rates by a parent or legal guardian, and return the completed Application to the Guidance Counselor or Career Center. Step 2.
Take the
Placement Test Or UseSAT/ACTTest Scores
Students must take the MECC placement test and achieve acceptable scores to qualify for enrollment in the courses.  Students who have not submitted a completed Application for Admission will not be allowed to test.  Students who have already taken all parts of the placement test and achieved acceptable scores to qualify for enrollment do not need to take it again. The placement test is given at the high schools in the spring.  Placement Scores may be waived with appropriate SAT or ACT scores. Step 3.
Receive Placement Test Scores
MECC will send test scores to the schools with recommendations regarding placement. Guidance Counselors/Career Center should review the placement recommendations. Step 4.
Enroll in Classes
The Guidance Counselor/Career Center will list the students qualifying for Dual Enrollment on the Agreement for Payment by District roster sheet – one for each dual-enrollment college class with Principal's signature. Rosters are sent to the School District Contact for Dual Enrollment for approval and signature. Students bring the High School Official's Permission to Enroll form to MECC's Enrollment Services Office along with an Enrollment Request form signed by an MECC counselor in Student Services. The high school official will indicate by checking the box under each course if Dual Enrollment credit is being awarded by the high school.  If the box is not checked, the student is enrolled as Principal's Permission.
Step 5.
Pay Portion of Tuition and Fees
Students will pay their portion of the tuition/fees at the High School or Career Center. If a student is repeating a class, the student must pay all tuition and fees to the MECC Business Office. Step 6.
Districts send rosters for processing
The School District Contact sends completed (signed and approved) roster sheets to MECC's Dual Enrollment Coordinator.  

MECC will invoice each school district for only 20% of the total cost of tuition and fees.
